We’re ready to give our best against West Indies: Joty
  Date : 10-05-2025

(BSS)—Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty said her teammates are ready to come all guns blazing against West Indies, knowing that a victory against the Caribbean’s will confirm their berth in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup later this year.

The Tigresses have already won three straight matches to stay at the top of the point table but the big challenges will be the last two matches. After facing off West Indies, they will take on another strong team Pakistan.

To win these two matches, they will have to give their best, Joty said.

`We want to qualify as quicker as possible. Yes, we are waiting for the next match, but we need to play as a team,” she said as her team gears up to take on West Indies tomorrow (Thursday) at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground.

Bangladesh started their journey with a record-breaking 178-run win against Thailand. They thereafter clinched a thrilling two-wicket win over Ireland before beating Scotland by 34 runs in the third match.

Joty wants the team to play against the West Indies and Pakistan with the same determination and focus like they did in the first three matches.

“We have to focus on to play as a team. It is definitely going to be a big match, and we want to continue the way we have played in the last few matches”, she added.

The batting unit, led by Joty herself, has played a big role in those three victories. With 235 runs in three matches, she is the highest run-scorer of the tournament so far. The captain is quite excited about this, “Batting has been our weakest link for the last few years. The bowlers were doing well, but the batting unit didn’t click as we expected.”

`But the batters have been playing well in this tournament. Especially the top order has been scoring runs consistently,” she said.

Joty wants the batters to continue like this way from now on.

“That was the only area where there was a need for improvement, and that improvement is visible now. Hopefully we’ll be able to continue it.”
