Zubaida Rahman`s birthday today

Today marks the birthday of Dr. Zubaida Rahman, wife of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

She was born on June 18, 1972, in Sylhet.

Zubaida is the daughter of Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali, who served as the Chief of the Bangladesh Navy during the presidency of Ziaur Rahman.

She is also the niece of General M.A.G. Osmani, the Commander-in-Chief of Bangladesh’s Liberation War forces. She is a cousin of Irene Khan, former Secretary General of Amnesty International.

Zubaida married Tarique Rahman on February 3, 1994, and joined the BCS Health Cadre in 1995. The couple has one daughter, Barrister Zaima Rahman.

Following Tarique Rahman’s release from prison in 2008, Zubaida took study leave and moved to London with her husband.

After 17 years abroad, she returned to Bangladesh on May 6 this year and met BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. She left for London again on June 5.

Earlier on June 17, BNP launches a two-day tree plantation program began in Dhaka to mark her birthday.
