CA Yunus begins dialogue with BNP delegation

On Saturday, the interim government launched a new round of dialogue with major political parties to gather further input on its proposed reform commissions.

Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus, along with several advisers, began discussions with BNP at 2:30 PM at the state guesthouse Jamuna.

The BNP delegation, led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, includes six party members -- standing committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Dr. Abdul Moeen Khan, and Salahuddin Ahmed.

Other political parties, including Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and CPB, are expected to join the dialogue later in the day. The discussions are likely to continue until 8 PM, according to political sources.

Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam earlier on Thursday said that BNP and other parties had been invited to participate in the dialogue, which aims to update them on the progress of the six reform commissions and discuss the law and order situation. He emphasized that this is part of an ongoing process of consultation.

Since the formation of the interim government on August 8, two rounds of dialogue have already been held between political parties and the Advisory Council led by Prof. Yunus.

According to BNP source, their focus during the talks would be on the government`s proposed roadmap for state reforms and the upcoming elections.

The six reform commissions are: the Electoral System Reform Commission, led by Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar; the Police Administration Reform Commission, headed by Sarfaraz Hossain; the Judiciary Reform Commission, led by Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman; the Anti-Corruption Reform Commission, chaired by Dr. Iftekharuzzaman of TIB; the Public Administration Reform Commission, led by Abdul Mueed Chowdhury; and the Constitution Reform Commission, chaired by Illinois State University professor Ali Riaz.
