Expose any mistakes or corruption within govt: Jahangir

Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has urged to expose any mistakes or corruption within the government.

He made this call after inspecting the project titled “History of Old Dhaka Central Jail, Preservation of Historical Buildings, and Surroundings Development” on Tuesday.

The Home Adviser said, “If there are any mistakes or corruption within us, please bring them to light. This will make us aware and allow us to make corrections. Please point out our mistakes, but do not highlight areas where there are no errors. Since we are human, mistakes can happen. If there is any corruption, you should inform us that it is happening; I have no objection to that.”

Regarding the jail project, the Home Adviser noted that the parking space for vehicles is small and needs to be expanded. He emphasised that the road outside the jail must also be widened, as failing to do so will lead to traffic congestion, causing difficulties for people trying to park and navigate the area.

He further added that the project is progressing well and that the work is being executed efficiently. He mentioned that the project must be completed within the existing budget, stating, “There is a trend in our country where a budget is created initially, and after a few days, it is said that it needs to be increased. That practice cannot continue. The work must be completed within the current budget.”

The Home Adviser also indicated that a part of the project will be completed within the next six months.

Regarding the roadblocks and traffic congestion caused by students from seven colleges, he remarked, “Those who are blocking the roads are the same ones talking about traffic congestion. Those who are creating traffic jams are the ones complaining about traffic congestion in Dhaka city. Now, where should I go? Please provide me with a solution.”

He added, “If they organise their programmes at Suhrawardy Udyan instead of blocking the roads, traffic congestion would not occur. Awareness among the public is essential for this.”
