  Manikganj Television Reporters Unit Holds Meetings with Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police

Kamrul Hasan : In an effort to strengthen cooperation between the media and the administration and to enhance development and law enforcement in the district, the Manikganj Television Reporters Unit held separate exchange-of-views meetings with the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) on Thursday.

As part of the day-long programme, a meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room around 11:00 am, where newly appointed Deputy Commissioner Nazmun Ara Sultana exchanged views with television journalists. Discussions focused on overall district development, administrative activities, public services, and various contemporary issues.
Responding to questions from journalists, the Deputy Commissioner said the role of the media is crucial in ensuring development and good governance. She described television journalists as key partners in transparently presenting administrative activities to the public. Emphasising transparency and accountability, she assured regular communication and coordination with journalists and called for collective efforts to identify and resolve district-level problems.
Later in the afternoon, around 2:00 pm, a separate meeting was held at the conference room of the Superintendent of Police, where SP Mohammad Sarwar Alam exchanged views with television journalists. The discussion centred on the overall law and order situation, crime prevention, drug control, and police actions against irregularities.
The Superintendent of Police said cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the media is indispensable for maintaining law and order and combating crime. Reiterating the police’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs, extortion, and criminal activities, he noted that objective and responsible reporting can help raise public awareness, making crime prevention efforts more effective. He expressed his expectation of a constructive role from television journalists in this regard.
During the meetings, the overall activities of the Manikganj Television Reporters Unit and various issues concerning journalists were highlighted by the organisation’s President BM Khorshed and General Secretary Ashraful Alam Liton.
Among those present were Adviser to the organisation and President of Manikganj Press Club Jahangir Alam Bishwas, former President Golam Sarwar Chhanu, Ahmed Sabbir Sohel, Monirul Islam Mihir, Kabul Uddin Khan, Executive Member and President of the Editors’ Council Shahidul Islam Sujan, General Secretary Akram Hossain, Vice President Yusuf Ali, Joint Secretary Yusuf Ali, Organising Secretary Maruf Hossain, Treasurer Abdul Alim, Office Secretary Rashed Chowdhury, Publicity and Publication Secretary Rana Parvez, Executive Members Asad Zaman and Al-Amin Mahmud, along with leaders and members from different levels of the organisation.
At the end of the meetings, leaders of the Manikganj Television Reporters Unit said that such regular interactions with the district and police administrations would further strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between journalists and the authorities. They expressed their commitment to working constructively with the administration to ensure fact-based and responsible journalism in the interest of development, law and order, and public welfare.
