  Ad-Din Executive Director Sheikh Mohiuddin resigns, Professor Jamalunnesa, ex DU teacher appointed as new Executive Director

Ad-Din Foundation has announced that it will take initiatives to make major changes in the hospital`s infrastructure and management.

Following the recent death of six newborns at the capital`s Ad-Din Hospital, the institution`s executive director Dr. Sheikh Mohiuddin has voluntarily stepped down from his duties. The board of directors has assigned this responsibility to Professor Jamalunnesa. At the same time, Ad-Din Foundation has announced that it will take initiatives to make major changes in the hospital`s infrastructure and management.

Tariqul Islam Mukul, Director (Company Affairs) of Ad-Din Foundation, gave this information in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement said that the Ad-Din family is deeply saddened by the recent child death. After the incident, action has been taken against those concerned for negligence of duty in the initial investigation. In addition, initiatives have been taken to strengthen the hospital`s supervision system and re-evaluate the treatment protocol.

The foundation also said that as per the government`s instructions, necessary renovation activities have been started in the hospital`s infrastructure and management. Work is underway under the leadership of three independent consultants to ensure light and ventilation and adequate oxygen supply. In addition, the bakery located above the corporate office has also been completely closed.

The statement said that Dr. Sheikh Mohiuddin has voluntarily stepped down from the post of Executive Director. After that, the board of directors appointed Professor Jamalunnesa as the new Executive Director.

Professor Jamalunnesa is a former teacher in the Department of Microbiology of Dhaka University. She has taught in that department for more than 25 years. She obtained first place in the first class in her postgraduate degree from Dhaka University in 1988. Later, she obtained a PhD degree from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Ad-Din Foundation said that since 1980, the institution has been conducting various activities including healthcare, medical education and training. Currently, it has 9 hospitals, 5 medical colleges, a nursing college, 4 nursing institutes, an institute of health technology, a collegiate school and several mobile healthcare programs.

The statement further said that Ad-Din Women`s Medical College Hospital has provided medical services to about 15.7 million patients in the last 29 years. As of June 11 this year, an average of about 2,000 patients has received outpatient services every day. Currently, about 1,790 doctors, nurses and staff are working in the institution, most of whom are women. In addition, a total of 646 students, including 209 foreign students, are studying at the medical college.

At the end of the statement, Ad-Din Foundation reiterated its commitment to ensuring patient safety, quality treatment and accountability.
