MT Desk: Due to the apathy and negligence of the Modi government, at least 25 children belonging to the Baiga and Gond Adivasi (tribal) communities have died in remote villages of the Balaghat district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh between May and September 2026, with some reports placing the death toll at over 30.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian media reports attribute these deaths to outbreaks of measles and malaria, while severe malnutrition, poor vaccination coverage, and limited access to basic medical facilities further exacerbated the situation.

Observers state that the Modi government must break its silence regarding the deaths of these 25 to 30 tribal children in Balaghat district.

These children from the Baiga and Gond tribes—who are among India’s most vulnerable communities—lost their lives to measles, malaria, and malnutrition bordering on starvation, yet the government in Delhi paid no heed to the crisis.

For months, these children suffered in remote villages due to the unavailability of doctors, vaccination failures, and a lack of rations.

Prime Minister Modi, who never misses an opportunity to preach about a “developed India,” has not uttered a single word expressing regret, accountability, or announcing immediate measures.

This is not a minor tragedy occurring in some obscure location; it is happening in a state governed by the BJP—a party that is also in power at the Centre and claims to champion the welfare of every citizen.

When Dalit or tribal children lose their lives in large numbers to treatable and preventable diseases, the silence of those in power is deeply distressing for the affected families.

This silence conveys a message to India’s poorest citizens that their lives matter less than photo-ops and election slogans.
