Can the concept of environmental childism be ensured in the socialization of the child?
  Date : 27-04-2024

Farhana Yasmin: When a human child steps on the earth, its fundamental differences with the unique creature are very vague. But over time, as the child grows older, the distinctive features and differences between him and the unique animal gradually become clearer and clearer. At the root of this difference are not only human traits, but also social traits. We call the process of teaching this social feature as socialization.

Socialization is a behavior by which children are identified as members of society. However, the conduct must be collective, not individual. It is not possible to be a member of society by personal or individual behavior. In this context, psychologist Bogardus says, “Socialization is a process through which individuals learn to behave reliably together for the good of the people.

In order to ensure this, one experiences social self-control, responsibility and equal personality.”

In fact, no one is born it is society that makes him social. Just as violence develops in a child when he grows up under the care of a ferocious animal outside the society, so the social qualities are clearly seen in a child who is raised under the care of a humane animal in a social environment. Thousands of studies have already been done on this subject and it has been proved that human beings or animals live their lives by possessing the qualities of the environment in which they develop.

In this process of socialization the real picture of society is captured. The main means of socialization of all countries and societies of the world are family, school, playmates, neighbors, religion and educational institutions. Scholars think that socialization is a part of education. An important element of the socialization process is imitation, that is, when one copies the actions and behaviors of the other. And we know, people just love imitation. Even children learn by looking at the activities around them. Children are getting addicted to watching cartoons in such a way that all the styles that Dremon, Motu-Patlu, Shiva gives, clothes and toys are used to buy the children. If children are brought closer to the environment with this process of imitation in mind, they will be able to spend at least some time of the day with the environment. Let me share with you my thoughts on this subject;

One of the topics in sociology is environmental feminism. Whose English is Ecofeminism. Just as we exploit the environment and take everything from it, we also abuse women and take everything from them. In other words, in spite of exploiting nature, just as they unselfishly benefit us, so also women endure oppression and give birth and nurture children. This is the premise of eco-feminism. And that is why sociologists have compared women to nature. Nature is as fresh as women are gentle. There are several environmental movements, including

Chipko, whose history shows how much women love nature, And that is why they cannot tolerate the destruction of nature. If the concept of eco-childrenism could be invented like this eco-feminism, then children like women could come closer to nature. If the issue of environmental childism can be awakened in children, the picture of their socialization will change completely. Nowadays children have become very addicted to internet and mobile gaming. Therefore, if they can connect with nature, they will be able to spend some time in the environment. As a result, there will be a system of afforestation as well as they will not waste time, using Facebook, Internet. And their bodies and minds will be healthy. So let us establish the concept of eco-childrenism as a new element in the process of socialization of children.

Just as socialization can be positive, it can also be negative. Various anti-social activities are the result of anti-socialization. While the socialization suffix is used specifically for children, it is an holistic process. Entering today's world of internet, the youth are becoming more and more arrogant in showing devotion, humility and expected behavior towards the elders including the parents. And the crisis of values is constantly happening. To save children from this adverse condition, they need to be integrated with the environment. For example, if a young man plants 1 tree per month, then it can be seen that in one year he has become the owner of a total of 12 trees. And if he cares for these trees for 1 hour every day, he will spend 365 hours, 21,900 minutes and 13,14,000 seconds in a year with the environment and nature. This will also start afforestation and protect the environment from oppression. After all, if everyone can

be made a nature lover in this way, then the world will one day be as green and fresh as before. The world that will be a tank of oxygen, the world that will not have a word called environmental pollution in the dictionary.
