Tigers look to turn over page and start anew

Bangladesh cricket team kicked-off their tour of India attending their first practice session at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

The Bangladesh cricketers reached India Wednesday evening for the maiden full-series tour of their neighboring country, comprising three T20Is and two Test matches.

After getting Test status in 2000, the Tigers have only ever travelled to India once for a bilateral series, for the lone Test in Hyderabad in 2017.

In this series, both Bangladesh and host India will play their respective maiden day-night Test when they lock horns in the second and final Test at EdenGardens in Kolkata.

Before taking on a strong India side at home, the first challenge for the Bangladesh cricketers will be to get their focus back to business.

Bangladesh cricket has just come out from a nine-day long unrest, starting with the national and first-class cricketers going into strike and ending with the Shakib al Hasan saga.

The moment the strike ended on October 23, the Test and T20I captain got himself into hot water with the Bangladesh Cricket Board over signing an endorsement deal with a telecom company without permission.

Things got worse with the two-year ban imposed by the International Cricket Council, with one year of that suspended, as Shakib admitted to not reporting three corrupt approaches by a listed bookie.

With Shakib subsequently ruled out of the India tour, the BCB named Mominul Haque as Test captain and Mahmudullah as the T20I skipper following an emergency meeting.

Challenge for Bangladesh in India is not limited to only producing good results in order to get themselves out from the recent lows, but also to make a statement that they are not shaken as a unit after the run of unlikely incidents in the last week or so.

Bangladesh will also miss the services of experienced opening batsman Tamim Iqbal.

The left-handed opener was granted leave from the series so that the cricketer could be beside his wife when she gives birth to their second child.

Bangladesh will take on India in the first of three T20Is Sunday at AJS.

The second and third T20I will be played in Rajkot and Nagpur on November 7 and 10 respectively.

The first Test will begin at Indore on November 14 following which the teams will travel to the City of Joy Kolkata for the second Test, to be played with a pink-ball
