  Date : 27-03-2024

News Desk : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a proposal in principle for importing some 50,000 metric tons of onion from National Cooperative Exports Limited of India.

The approval came from the sixth meeting of the CCEA this year held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room of Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday with Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Division Secretary (Coordination and Reforms) Md Mahmudul Hossain Khan said that the day`s meeting approved three proposals in principle.

He said the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would import such quantity of onion from India considering the increasing demand of such essential item.

Mahmudul said, in response to a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the CCEA meeting approved a proposal in principle for procuring LNG under short-term process from Gunvor Singapore Pte Ltd. Singapore.

Besides, following another proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the meeting was apprised about signing of the Terminal Use Agreement (TUA) and Implementation Agreement (IA) with Summit LNG Terminal II Co Ltd instead of Summit Oil and Shipping Co Ltd (SOSCL) for setting up a 600 MMCFD capacity re-pacification third FSRU at Moheshkhali in Cox`s Bazaar district.
