  Date : 15-03-2025

(BSS) - Police have enhanced raids to face note counterfeiters across the country as the gang is trying to be active to circulate fake currencies before the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, law enforcers said.

"Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has already taken stringent steps to catch currency fakers as they are seen to be active before Eid when shopping get momentum all over the country," DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman told BSS today.

The law enforces already arrested three members a counterfeit currency gang conducting a raid at Old Dhaka`s Kamrangirchar area on Thursday as they confessed activities of different identical gangs, the DMP spokesperson said.

During the primary interrogation, the arrestees identifying Suman, Sultana and Hanif Gazi confessed of issuing a large quantity of counterfeit notes centering Eid as the trio were put on two-day remand by the court, he said.

Police also seized fake currencies and equipment of producing fake notes worth about Tk 20 lakh in line with their confession conducting another drive at Siddhirgang of Narayanganj district on the outskirts of Dhaka, Talebur said.

They also acknowledged that they have been making various types of fake notes for a long time and selling them in different districts of Bangladesh including the capital in order to make illegal profits, he added.

Security agencies said fake notes are manufactured all over the year but its exchange increases before the Eid festivals as people spend a lot of money for shopping.

However, due to strict surveillance of the law enforcement agencies, the gang members are being arrested, the police official said.

"Many are under surveillance" he also said.

Forgers produce fake notes, especially of Tk 500 and Tk 1,000 during Eid shopping binge, he added.

The counterfeiter easily produces fake notes sitting in a small place with tiny investment as a laptop, a colour printer, some particular paper, chemicals and some other materials are enough to forge notes, Talebur said.

Police, however, are on the field to tackle rampage of the note forging gangs, he claimed.
