Home Adviser signals zero tolerance for unrest ahead of Feb polls
  Date : 18-11-2025

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday said law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to counter any attempt to destabilise the country, as the next national election is expected in the first half of February.

He made the comments during a meeting with German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Rudiger Loltz at Ministry of Home Affairs, where the prevailing law-and-order situation featured prominently in discussions.

The Adviser said the overall security situation remains normal across the country, barring a few isolated incidents reported after the verdict against Sheikh Hasina.

He cautioned that authorities will take firm action against any individual or group attempting to disrupt public safety in the coming days.

Jahangir Alam reiterated that announcing the exact election date is the responsibility of Election Commission, but assured that security agencies stand ready to support the electoral process whenever called upon.

The meeting also covered public sentiment following the verdict, preparations linked to the election timeline, prisoner extradition, cybercrime issues and broader areas of bilateral cooperation.

Describing Germany and Bangladesh as “tested friends,” the Adviser expressed hope that relations between the two countries will continue to deepen.

Additional Secretary (Political) of Home Ministry Khandaker Md Mahabubur Rahman and Anja Kersten, Deputy Head of Mission at German Embassy, were also present.
