The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is exploring the possibility of forming a broader political alliance ahead of the upcoming national election, aiming to strengthen national unity and enhance its prospects for electoral success.
“We are considering forming a greater alliance with the parties that joined us in simultaneous movements — and possibly with others — so that together we can overcome the electoral challenges ahead,” said BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday.
He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after placing wreaths at the grave of party founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, accompanied by leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, marking the organisation’s 47th founding anniversary.
Responding to queries about the party’s recent meetings with potential candidates at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office, Salahuddin said the discussions were being held with all qualified aspirants in different constituencies, as multiple candidates have expressed interest in many areas.
“These meetings are part of our broader effort to ensure unity within the party and foster unity across the nation,” he said. “We want to send a clear message — we will not allow division. Our goal is to stay united and move forward together.”
Salahuddin described national unity as BNP’s “greatest strength,” adding that the party is committed to reflecting the aspirations of Bangladesh’s youth in its future roadmap.
“Our vision is to build a new Bangladesh inspired by the ideas of the young generation,” he said. “We’ve travelled across the country, listened to young people, and are now shaping programmes that translate their vision into policies for rebuilding the nation.”
Expressing optimism about a youth-led future, Salahuddin said the BNP envisions a Bangladesh driven by employment, technology, and talent — in line with the dreams of the martyrs of the Liberation War and the July-August mass uprising.
Thousands of Jubo Dal members gathered at Zia’s grave to mark the anniversary, offering prayers for the late president’s soul and for the peace and prosperity of the nation.
