Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has assured that the Bangladesh Army will provide full support to the government and the Election Commission (EC) to ensure the upcoming national election is free, fair, and peaceful.
Speaking at an event at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment on Sunday marking Armed Forces Day, the Army Chief said, “The country is approaching an election.We will assist both the government and the Election Commission to ensure a smooth and credible election. The army remains committed to maintaining law and order nationwide.”
He added that the Bangladesh Army will continue to work for the nation’s welfare, following the path set by the freedom fighters.
During the ceremony, 64 army personnel were awarded medals for acts of bravery and outstanding service, while 75 families of freedom fighters were honoured.
Among the awards, nine received the Army Medal, 17 the Outstanding Service Medal, and 38 the Distinguished Service Medal for contributions in the fiscal years 2024–25 and 2025–26.
