Online Desk: Prominent Muslim organisations have sought action against the producers, actors and directors of the upcoming feature film ‘Hum Do HamareBarah’ and called for imposing a ban on the controversial movie.In a statement, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) sought legal action against the producers, directors and producers of the film set to be released on 7 June. AIMPLB spokesperson QasimRasoolIlyas described the movie as “extremely absurd, vulgar, misleading, communal, provocative, based on lies and slander, harmful to the country’s integrity and brotherhood, and Islamophobic”.

Ilyas expressed extreme surprise and astonishment at how the Censor Board allowed the screening of such absurd, misleading, provocative, and defamatory films against a community.“This raises a question mark over the impartiality of the Censor Board itself. Through the title, theme, entire story, and dialogues of the film, not only has an attempt been made to tarnish the image of Indian Muslims, but this film also aggressively attacks the religion of Islam and its teachings,” he said.

The AIMPLB spokesperson said that although the image of Islam and Muslims has been distorted several times in Indian films, it seems as though there is a flood of such notorious films these days. Through films like ‘The Kerala Story’ and ‘The Kashmir Files’, Muslims have been portrayed as terrorists and Islam has been depicted as a religion that promotes terrorism. Now, through this film, an attempt is being made to distort a verse of the Qur’an to prove that in Islam women are insignificant beings, he asserted.

He further stated that for several decades, official census data has shown that the birth rate among Muslims is rapidly and continuously declining, but films like the upcoming movie are instilling fear in the majority community over the perceived increase in the Muslim population.Earlier, Feroze Ahmed Advocate, President of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, expressed a strong reaction to the trailer of the film titled ‘Hum Do HamareBarah’, stating that it is an extremely toxic and inflammatory film made with the intent to defame Muslims and spread hatred.

The Mushawarat chief has written a letter to the Censor Board demanding an immediate ban on the release of the film. He noted that this film has been created to defame Islam, Muslims, Muslim women, and the Indian Muslim community“It is necessary to take action against it to curb this menace promptly,” said Ahmed.

He appealed to the justice-loving citizens of the country not to allow the producer of this film to spread hatred against a particular religious community. Encouraging the destruction of societal peace for monetary gain will turn this curse into a widespread epidemic, he said adding that the trade of hatred is part of a conspiracy to destroy the country.Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, author and former chairman of the Delhi Minority Commission, also wrote to the Censor Board demanding ban on the film while calling it “venomous” and a “threat to communal harmony”.
