Students not linked to extortion, says Hasnat

Hasnat Abdullah, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, today said a vested group is exploiting the movement`s name to carry out extortion schemes across the country.

“Apart from this, cases are being lodged using our names and copying our signatures. But we have no link with the incidents,” Hasnat Abdullah told reporters this noon.

Earlier in the day, Hasnat along with Sarjis Alam, also a coordinator of the student movement, held a meeting with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman at his Segunbagicha office in Dhaka.

While talking to the journalists after the meeting, Sarjis said they urged the anticorruption watch dog not to harass anyone in connection with politically motivated and fabricated case.

“The fascist government has been harassing people for the last 16 years by implicating them with false cases. We urged the commission to remain careful so that no innocent people face such harassment anymore,” he said.

About the ongoing extortion using the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, he said, “A group of people is trying to take advantage using our names but they have no authority to give such benefits to anyone or to take benefits themselves.”

He said he also called upon the officials of the ACC to remain alert to prevent such misdeeds.

Meanwhile, a human chain was formed in front of the ACC head office demanding resignation of its incumbent Chairman Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah.
