Immediate formation of 10th wage board demanded

(BSS) - Leaders of Bangladesh Sangbadpathro Karmachari Federation (BSKF) and Bangladesh Federal Union of Newspaper Press Workers

(BFUNPW) have demanded forming the 10th wage board immediately for journalists and newspaper employees-workers.

They also urged the owners of the newspapers to implement the 9th wage board award, saying, “The 9th wage board award was given nearly five years ago. But many media outlets have not executed the award till now.”

They made the call today when addressing a joint meeting of the BSKF and BFUNPW at the BSS employees union office in the capital.

The journalist leaders also called for the immediate reconstitution of the Media Reform Commission, with the inclusion of valid representatives from the journalist, worker, and employee federations. They emphasized the need for the implementation of an 11-point demand of workers.

They also stressed on halting workplace harassment, timely payment of salaries and allowances, and the provision of a full bonus before Eid.

In addition, the leaders demanded the creation of a new commission consisting of these
federations’ legitimate representatives to ensure a more effective media landscape.

As part of the ongoing campaign to address the media workers` grievances, a joint human chain
and protest program will be organized by the two federations on Monday, March 17 at 11 am in
front of the Jatiya Press Club.

BSKF President Matiur Rahman Talukder spoke at the meeting as the key speaker with
BFUNPW President Md Alamgir Hossain Kan in the chair.

Conducted by BSKF Secretary General Md Khairul Islam, it was also attended by Mostaq
Ahmed, Md Tanvir Hossain, Mohammad Ali Khan (Apu), Tozamell Haque, Maksudul
Ahsan, Rafiqul Islam, Md Jahangir Hossain, Md Ataur Rahman and Belayet Hossain.
