(BSS) - BNP Acting Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said BNP conducts its politics by relying on the strength of the people, not on the strength of power.

He said BNP is currently entrusted with running the country after being elected by the people’s votes. But it has never conducted politics by showing the strength of power, he said, adding that the only strength BNP demonstrates is the strength of the people.

Rizvi made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest a protest rally in the capital’s Nayapaltan today, organized in protest against the anarchy and terrorist activities of Awami League, whose activities have been banned across the country.

Dhaka Mohanagar South BNP organized the rally.

Rizvi said the opposition is being given the opportunity to carry out programmes in a democratic environment. There is currently no obstruction to their speaking inside and outside parliament or holding political programmes, he said.

“During the fascist Awami League government, opposition parties’ long marches from Dhaka to Rangpur faced obstructions at various places, including Gazipur, Kaliakair, Mirzapur, Tangail, Bogura and Sirajganj,” he said.

The Acting Secretary General said the current energy crisis was not created by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman or the BNP government; rather, it was caused by the global situation. The war in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz have created a crisis in Bangladesh’s energy supply, he added.

He said when gas supplies decline, it becomes difficult to operate mills and factories and keep cooking stoves burning in households. To address the crisis, he said the government has allocated an additional Tk 40,000 crore beyond the budget and taken initiatives to bring gas and LNG from nearby countries such as Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia.
