Just hours after US President Donald Trump announced a “complete and total ceasefire” between Israel and Iran, Israel reported early Tuesday that at least three people were killed and eight others injured in a fresh missile barrage launched from Iran.

Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency services confirmed casualties from the pre-dawn attack, which also caused significant damage to a residential building in southern Israel. Images from the scene showed the front of a seven-story structure blown apart.

Despite Trump’s late Monday announcement that both sides had agreed to end hostilities — with the ceasefire reportedly set to begin around midnight Tuesday Eastern Time — the situation on the ground remained volatile. Sirens sounded across Israel shortly after 5 a.m. local time, and the military warned of further missile threats. At least one missile interception was visible over Jerusalem as daylight broke.

Trump’s announcement followed Iran’s limited missile strike on a U.S. military base in Qatar on Monday, a retaliatory move after American strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on X that Tehran would halt its military actions only if Israel ceased its attacks by 4 a.m. local Tehran time. While there were no confirmed Israeli strikes in Iran after that hour, Araghchi insisted there was no formal ceasefire yet. “As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations,” he posted at 4:16 a.m., adding that Iran`s final decision would be made later.

Israel has not officially acknowledged any ceasefire agreement. Its military declined to comment on Trump’s declaration, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has yet to issue a statement. However, the apparent pause in Israeli strikes after 4 a.m. has raised speculation of a potential de-escalation, despite the ongoing uncertainty.

The continuation of attacks following Trump’s announcement has cast doubt over the ceasefire’s status, with analysts warning that the conflict could still reignite at any moment.
