Gold Robbery Drama: Sensational Twist Unfolds in Manikganj

Kamrul Hasan: A shocking revelation has emerged in the much-discussed gold robbery incident at the Goldsmiths’ Market in  Manikganj town — the shop owner himself staged the entire “robbery drama.”

According to police interrogation, the shop owner, Shubho Das (35), had hired three miscreants for Tk 500,000 to carry out a planned fake robbery at his own jewelry shop.

Police Superintendent Yasmin Khatun confirmed the information during a press briefing held at Manikganj Sadar Police Station on Sunday evening (October 6).

She said that on Saturday night (October 5), a robbery took place at a jewelry shop named “Abhi Alankar” in the Goldsmiths’ Market area. CCTV footage showed two men entering the shop, stabbing owner Shubho Das, and fleeing with gold ornaments. The incident caused a huge sensation throughout the area.

Soon after, police launched an operation and arrested Amanat Hossain Rana, Sohan Mia, Sharif Khan, and Sabuj Mia. During primary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that Shubho Das himself had hired them for Tk 500,000 to stage the robbery. As per the plan, they entered the shop, pretended to rob it, and lightly stabbed Shubho to make the incident look real.

Police Superintendent Yasmin Khatun further stated that the investigation revealed about 40 tolas of gold, claimed to have been looted, were actually hidden by Shubho Das himself. To make the incident appear authentic, he injured himself and attempted to mislead both the public and law enforcement agencies.

Police have since shown Shubho Das arrested in the case.

Authorities remarked that fabricating such false incidents not only spreads confusion in society but also wastes valuable police resources — an act considered a serious offense. The incident has sparked intense discussion across the district.
