President calls for building humane, technology-driven police force

(BSS) – President Mohammed Shahabuddin today extended his warm greetings and felicitations to all members of Bangladesh Police on the occasion of Police Week 2026, calling for building the force as more humane, people-friendly and technology-driven.

In a message marking the occasion, the President described Bangladesh Police as a traditional institution entrusted with maintaining the country’s security and law and order.

The Head of State paid profound respect to the brave police personnel who made supreme sacrifices while performing their duties at different times, including during the Great Liberation War, and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls.

The President said the role of the police force is crucial in ensuring internal security, protecting people’s lives and property, and curbing crimes.

He said the stability, good governance and development of the state largely depend on the honesty, dedication, professionalism and discipline of the police force.

President Shahabuddin thanked members of Bangladesh Police for performing their duties with efficiency and integrity during the recently held 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections, which were conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

In the era of information technology (IT), the nature of crime is becoming increasingly complex and multidimensional, he observed.

Noting that cyberspace, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ‘deep fake technologies’ are being used in various criminal activities, he stressed the need to enhance police members’ skills in using modern technologies to tackle such challenges.

The President also underscored the importance of ensuring transparency and accountability to uphold the image of the force.

At the same time, he said, the relationship between police and the public must be further strengthened through community policing, protection of human rights and the development of a service-oriented mindset.

He said the incumbent government remains committed to transforming the police force into a more service-oriented and people-friendly institution through necessary reforms and quality enhancement initiatives.

The President expressed hope that Bangladesh Police would emerge as a trusted institution of the people through humane, just and responsible conduct and continue its relentless efforts to strengthen the rule of law.

He wished overall success of all programmers undertaken to mark ‘Police Week 2026’ and the continued success of the force.
