| (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today urged the countrymen to remain vigilant, saying that a group is spreading confusion in the country in the name of politics.
"A group is spreading confusion in the country in the name of politics. You should stay alert," he said while addressing the Family Card distribution ceremony at Chandpur Government College ground here this afternoon.
Noting that BNP does the politics of changing the people`s fate, Tarique Rahman, also BNP chairman, said, "BNP`s politics means dredging canals, increasing agricultural production, building new mills and factories, creating employment opportunities, ensuring healthcare and guaranteeing public safety."
Addressing the crowd, he said, "If anyone tries to create confusion or anarchy in the name of politics, will you remain silent? We will not remain silent. We will resist with an iron hand."
Every programme undertaken by BNP aimed at improving the living standard of the country`s working-class people, the Prime Minister said, adding, "We ousted the autocratic regime through a movement to this end. The people have now transferred power to an elected government. Now it is our turn to change people`s fate."
Along with Chandpur, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the Family Card distribution programme in 20 other districts through video conference under the initiative of the Ministry of Social Welfare.
At the event, the Prime Minister handed over Family Cards to ten women beneficiaries. They are: Hasina Khatun, Sohagi Akhtar, Fatema Khatun, Amena Khatun, Moseda Begum, Monowara Begum, Mahmuda Khatun, Ruma Akhtar, Nazma Begum and Taslima.
Later, the premier pressed a button on a laptop while cash assistance of Taka 2,500 was instantly transferred to accounts of 15,000 women beneficiaries in Chandpur and 20 other districts.
Urging everyone to work to build the country, Tarique Rahman said, "Now is the time to work. Now is the time to build the country. Let`s dedicate ourselves to nation-building . . . we must remain alert so that no one can obstruct the path of nation-building."
"Let`s pledge `Korbo Kaj, Gorbo Desh; Sobar Agee Bangladesh (We will work, we will build the country, Bangladesh first)," he added.
At the event, the Prime Minister also expressed positive support for local demands, including the establishment of an EPZ and a Science and Technology University in Chandpur.
He said the country`s people want peace and stability, but some groups are creating unnecessary controversies.
"On February 12, the people voted in favor of the promises we made during the election. We have now begun implementing those commitments with the people by our side. If we can implement these promises step by step, the fate of the people will change," the premier said.
The family card distribution ceremony turned into a massive public rally with the presence of thousands of party leaders, activists, supporters and people from all walks of life.
Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain presided over the event while Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, Prime Minister`s Adviser Dr Mahdi Amin, Chandpur district BNP President Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik, MP, Md Jalal Ahmed, MP, Rasheda Begum Hira, Zilla Parishad Administrator Advocate Salim Ullah Selim and Social Welfare Secretary Dr Mohammad Abu Yusuf spoke at the event, among others.
Family Card recipients Ruma Akhtar and Monowara Begum also spoke at the event praising the Prime Minister`s initiative.
Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun were present at the event, among others.
