PM warns people against attempts to destabilise country

(BSS)– Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today urged the people to remain alert, saying that attempts were underway to create an anarchic situation in the country.

“Attempts are underway to create an anarchic situation in the country. Stay alert,” he said while addressing a gathering of BNP leaders and activists as well as villagers after inaugurating the re-excavation work of the ‘Dharar Khal’ in the Bailor area of Trishal in the district.

“Everyone must remain alert about those who want to create this anarchic situation in the country today. Because if an anarchic situation is created in the country at this moment, the government’s development activities will be obstructed. The country’s people will be in danger,” the premier added.

Referring to the murder of child Ramisa at Pallabi in the capital, he said, “Three-four days ago, a very unjust, very tragic and heartbreaking incident took place regarding how this little child was killed.

“From the very beginning, we have been saying that if any person commits a crime in the eyes of the law, he or she must be punished. We want to establish the rule of law. However, everything must be done according to rules and regulations,” the premier added.

Noting that the government has certain rules and regulations to give punishment or bring any wrongdoer to justice, Tarique Rahman said, “Yet, centering around one incident, some people have been trying for the last few days to create a murky situation in the country”.

“They are blocking roads, stopping vehicles, setting fires and creating tensions here and there. Those who are doing these things are obstructing the rule of law,” he added.
The Prime Minister further said, “When the interim government was in power, we saw several tragic incidents like this in the country. When those injustices occurred, I personally spoke to the mothers of those children, our party’s lawyers and doctors went there to provide treatment and legal assistance. But those people who are now making noise, blocking roads and speaking loudly, we did not see them in the field then, nor did we see them blocking roads.”

“Then should we assume that since the people of Bangladesh voted for BNP in the February 12 election and gave it the mandate to form the government, some quarters are now burning with frustration and conspiring because of that?” He questioned

Urging the countrymen to stay vigilant, Tarique Rahman said, “We must remain cautious. Those whom the people of Bangladesh ousted from this country on August 5 are connected with those who are now trying to create chaos. Just as they did in 1996, just as they did in 1986, with them some new tails (associates) have now also emerged. Nice little tails have also grown.”

“We have ousted authoritarianism from this country. The dictator that had taken away the people’s voting rights, their right to speak, and had stopped all development for the working and rural people. The people of Bangladesh, united on the streets with students and masses, drove them out of the country,” he added.

Stating that the country’s people now want to build the country, the Prime Minister said, “The people of Bangladesh want to change their fate. If we want to change destiny, we must activate the 40 crore hands of our 20 crore people. We must put the 40 crore hands of our 20 core people to work. Only then will we be able to change the fate of the people of this country.”

Calling upon the people to resist playing with the fate of the people, Tarique Rahman said, “Now is the time to work for changing the fate of the people. On the other hand, the people of Bangladesh must remain vigilant against those who are spreading confusion to obstruct justice and proper judgment, and to hinder programmes undertaken for the people.”

“It must be remembered that the people are the owners of this country. A few people will spread confusion in the country and become successful, and play games with the fate of the people - this can no longer be allowed. The people of Bangladesh will stand with those who stand beside the people, work for the people, and together they will protect this country from any conspiracy,” he added.

The Prime Minister said, “I must look after my own home. We ourselves must look after our country. We ourselves will protect the independence of our country, the sovereignty of our country and the interests of our people, and we will resist any conspiracy, InShaAllah.”

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu and local BNP leaders spoke at the event with local lawmaker Mahbubur Rahman Liton in the chair.

Earlier, the Prime Minister unveiled a plaque at the canal re-excavation site.

He then inaugurated the re-excavation programme by cutting soil with a spade. He also planted a palm tree sapling on the bank of the canal.
