People should claim rights if leaders fail: Mardia Momtaj MP

Special Correspondent: Reserved Women’s Seat-44 MP Mardia Momtaj has said that if an elected representative fails to ensure citizens receive their due rights, the people must claim those rights themselves.

Speaking at a distribution ceremony of cash aid from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund for the poor and destitute ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, she said, “The job of a public representative is to ensure that citizens receive their state-given rights. Jamaat-e-Islami believes it has honest and competent leadership to fulfill state responsibilities. Jamaat-e-Islami does not seek power, but wants to serve in establishing the fundamental rights of the people.”

She added that Jamaat-e-Islami has no record of corruption or irregularities. “With corruption-free leadership, the future Bangladesh will be a welfare-oriented and humane Bangladesh,” she said.

The event was held on Monday, May 25, at Purana Paltan College auditorium. It was presided over by Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin, Central Working Committee member of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Nayeb-e-Ameer of Dhaka Metropolitan South. Metropolitan South Working Committee member Maulana Shariful Islam conducted the program.

Special guests included Dhaka Metropolitan South Jamaat’s Social Welfare Secretary and Working Committee member Shahin Ahmed Khan; Majlis-e-Shura member and Motijheel South Thana Ameer Maulana Motasim Billah; reserved women councillor candidates Saleha Momtaj and Dilara Begum; and Shahjahanpur Thana Women Secretary Parvin Akter. Local dignitaries were also present.

In his speech, Advocate Dr. Helal said, “Unless the spirit of July is fully implemented, the people’s rights will not return.” He described the spirit of July as a Bangladesh of justice and fairness, where there will be no discrimination, no bloodshed, and no return of fascism.

He alleged that although the 13th national election and a referendum were supposed to be held on the same day, the government accepted the election result but rejected the referendum. “Because the government wants to return to the path of fascism again,” he said. He asserted that students and the people will not allow fascism to be established and that the July Charter must be implemented.

Dr. Helal said Jamaat-e-Islami wants to build a welfare and humane state where there will be no discrimination and citizens are guaranteed their state rights. “If Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, Bangladesh will become a welfare state. Eid gift allocations for citizens of a welfare state will be higher, and every citizen will receive their due share,” he said.

The financial assistance was distributed among beneficiaries as part of the Eid gift program.
