Beijing and London Pledge Closer Cooperation to Address Global Challenges

International Desk: Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in Beijing on Tuesday, as the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation on a range of global issues.

During the meeting, Han Zheng noted that the leaders of China and the United Kingdom reached an important consensus in January this year on building a long-term and stable China-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, marking a new chapter in bilateral relations.

He emphasized that the healthy development of China-UK relations serves the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples. Han called on the two nations to act responsibly as major countries by enhancing strategic communication, sustaining the positive momentum of bilateral ties, exploring new avenues for cooperation, and promoting greater people-to-people exchanges.

The Chinese vice president also stressed the importance of jointly upholding genuine multilateralism, advancing reforms in global governance, and working together to bring greater stability and certainty to an increasingly complex international landscape.

For her part, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said that China and the United Kingdom share broad common interests and significant potential for cooperation in areas including trade and investment, artificial intelligence, green development, and climate change response.

She reaffirmed the UK’s willingness to work closely with China to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen constructive dialogue and practical cooperation, and jointly address pressing global challenges.
