Dunhuang hosts leading scholars for cultural dialogue and exchange

International Desk: The Third World Conference of Sinologists recently opened in Dunhuang, a historic city in China’s Gansu Province, bringing together more than 300 representatives from over 70 countries and regions to discuss civilizational exchange, cultural understanding and global cooperation.

The conference serves as an important platform for scholars and experts on China studies to deepen their understanding of Chinese history, culture and contemporary development while promoting dialogue among different civilizations.

During the event, participants immersed themselves in various aspects of traditional Chinese culture. Through activities such as creating Dunhuang-inspired paintings, practicing Baduanjin, a traditional Chinese fitness and martial arts exercise, and learning the art of Chinese calligraphy, delegates gained firsthand experience of Chinese cultural traditions and everyday life.

Among the participants was French representative Garnier, who shared his long-standing interest in and appreciation for China. He also introduced attendees to France’s recently enacted Cultural Heritage Restitution Law, which was published in May, highlighting ongoing international efforts related to the protection and return of cultural heritage.

Participants noted that the Chinese civilizational concept of “One World, One Family: Harmony and Coexistence” offers valuable insights for addressing contemporary global challenges. They emphasized that mutual learning among civilizations and greater cultural understanding can contribute to a more inclusive and cooperative international environment.

The conference is expected to further strengthen academic exchanges and people-to-people ties while fostering deeper appreciation of China’s cultural heritage among scholars from around the world.
