Special Correspondent: Bangladesh Ambassador-designate to Bhutan Imran Haider has held a meeting with Chimi P. Wangdi, Secretary General of the Tarayana Foundation, a leading non-profit organisation working to improve the lives of vulnerable rural communities in Bhutan.

During the meeting, Ambassador-designate Haider commended the Foundation for its efforts to promote socio-economic empowerment among disadvantaged communities through grassroots development initiatives.

The Tarayana Foundation operates under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Mother Gyalyum Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck. The organisation focuses on supporting rural communities and helping people build more sustainable livelihoods by addressing socio-economic challenges at the grassroots level.

The discussions between the Bangladesh envoy-designate and the Foundation`s Secretary General focused on possible areas of cooperation between the two sides. Vocational training emerged as one of the potential areas where Bangladesh and Bhutan could share experiences and expertise.

The two sides also explored opportunities for sharing best practices in community uplift projects. Such exchanges could help both countries learn from successful grassroots initiatives and develop approaches suited to the needs of vulnerable communities.

The meeting comes as Bangladesh and Bhutan continue to maintain close and friendly relations, with cooperation extending beyond traditional diplomatic and economic engagement to areas involving people-to-people development and social empowerment.

Cooperation in vocational skills and community development could create opportunities for exchanging practical knowledge, particularly in helping rural populations acquire skills and improve their livelihoods.

The discussion therefore highlighted the potential for development-oriented cooperation between Bangladesh and Bhutan, with grassroots initiatives serving as a bridge between the two friendly South Asian neighbours.
