  Date : 26-04-2024

THAKURGAON correspondent

The local administration imposed section 144 in Haripur Upazila on Wednesday as two groups of ruling Awami League called meetings at the same venue.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdul Karim slapped the ban on gathering.

The restriction will remain in force from 10am today till 10am on November 9.

President of Awami League’s district unit Dabirul Islam and General Secretary Sadek Kuraishi had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area, locals say.

Both groups called meetings at Chapdharabazar area at 11am on Wednesday on the occasion of forming committee of the party’s Bakua Union unit.

The local administration imposed a ban on gathering to prevent any untoward situation.

Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area.
