The country`s highest temperature was recorded at 39 degree Celsius at Ishurdi upazila in Rajshahi district and Mongla upazila in Khulna district on Monday (April 1) afternoon.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) confirmed the information in a press release.
It was the highest temperature of the current summer season.
"Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna & Barishal divisions and the districts of Dinajpur & Nilphamari and it may continue & spread. Due to excessive moisture excursion, the discomfort may increase," reads the BMD press release.
Rajshahi Meteorological office said 1.00mm rainfall was recorded in the district on March 31 last.
Earlier, the highest temperature was recorded at 37.32 degree Celsius in the district on March 31.
The Met office further said moderate to intense heatwave is now sweeping over Rajshahi district. Generally, when the temperature remains between 38 degre to 40 degree Celsius, it is considered moderate heat wave. But, when the temperature remains within 40-42 degree Celsius, it is then called intense heatwave.
