Two children drowned while bathing in a pond in Chattogram`s Chandanaish upazila on Monday.

The accident happened around noon at Ward not-4 of Chandanaish Municipality.

The deceased were Jannatul Mawa, 9, daughter of Belal Uddin, and Nusrat Jahan Faria, 7, daughter of Jakir Hossain, residents of that area.

According to locals, the two girls went to bathe in a pond adjacent to their house together. When they did not return for a long time, family members started searching for them.

Later, the bodies of Jannatul and Nusrat surfaced in the pond. At that time, locals and family members took them to Chandanaish Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.

Among the deceased, Jannatul Mawa was a student of Class Three at Harla Samabay Government Primary School and Nusrat was a student of Class One at West Harla Government Primary School.
