Kazi Zafar Ullah arrested from Gulshan

Awami League presidium member Kazi Zafar Ullah was arrested from Gulshan area in the capital on Wednesday night.

Mohammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the arrest on Thursday morning.

Kazi Zafar was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Faridpur-5 constituency as an Awami League (AL) candidate. He lost to independent candidate Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon in the national parliamentary elections held in 2014, 2018, and 2024 while contesting with the boat symbol.

At the 20th National Council of the AL on October 23, 2016, Kazi Zafar was elected as a presidium member. He is also a member of the party`s Local Government and Parliamentary Nomination Board.

Following the student uprising, AL President Sheikh Hasina fled to India after resigning as Prime Minister on August 5. Since then, several ministers, members of parliament, advisors, and senior leaders of the AL have been arrested.
