Online Report : Selina Islam, former Member of Parliament from a reserved women`s seat and vice-president of Cumilla North District unit of Awami League, has been arrested from Gulshan area of the capital.

On Saturday, DB’s Joint Commissioner (North), Mohammad Robiul Hossain Bhuiyan, confirmed the arrest and said that Selina Islam, a former MP from a reserved seat, had been taken into custody.

Selina Islam is wife of Kazi Shahid Islam Papul, former MP of Lakshmipur-2, who was convicted in Kuwait in a high-profile money laundering and human trafficking case.

A Kuwait-based industrialist, Selina Islam was elected to 11th National Parliament as an independent candidate from Reserved Women`s Seat-49.

It is notable that on November 11, 2020, Md. Salah Uddin, Deputy Director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), filed a case accusing Shahid Islam Papul, his wife Selina Islam and two others of laundering around Tk 148 crore and possessing Tk 2.31 crore in undisclosed assets.
