2 girls drown in Jhenidah pond

Two cousin sisters tragically drowned in a pond in Jhenidah`s Maheshpur upazila on Wednesday.

The incident happened in the morning at Khosalpur village under Nepa union of the upazila.

The dead were Afia, 12, daughter of Shafiqul Islam, and Sathia, 8, daughter of Khairul Islam, both residents of that village. The girls were students of Khosalpur Government Primary School.

Local UP member Enamul Haque said, “In the morning, the two girls went to the pond near their house to bathe before school. When they didn’t return for a long time, family members began searching and eventually recovered their bodies from the pond.”

Inspector (Investigation) of Maheshpur Police Station, Sajjadur Rahman, confirmed the matter, stating, “We have received reports of two children drowning. A police team is on the way to the scene.”
