Elections in February, says Fakhrul after meeting Yunus
  Date : 31-08-2025

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed confidence that the upcoming national elections will be held in February, following assurances from the chief adviser during a high-level meeting.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Fakhrul described the discussion as “fruitful,” noting: “The chief adviser has assured us that the elections will be held in February. We also believe it.”

The BNP leader said his party had presented its concerns and expectations regarding the election-time government and the broader political environment. He added that the chief adviser had also sought BNP’s views on the recent attack on Gana Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nuru.

“We made it clear that we consider this to be a very outlandish act,” Fakhrul said. “It is deeply worrying in the current political context, and we believe it must be investigated thoroughly.”

Addressing fears of a potential delay to the polls, Fakhrul warned that “a conspiracy” may be under way but insisted that there was no cause for alarm. “The elections will take place as scheduled by the Election Commission. Our chief adviser has confirmed this to us,” he added.

Fakhrul also acknowledged the chief adviser’s intention to engage in dialogue with the largest political party in the country, saying it was “his prerogative.” He further noted that discussions involving BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman and the chief adviser had reassured the nation.
