Voting begins in RUCSU elections

Voting has begun for the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU), Hall Union, and Senate Student Representative elections. The polling started at 9:00 am on Thursday and will continue until 4:00 pm.

Voters were seen standing in long queues outside the polling centers from early morning. With elections being held after a gap of 35 years, a festive atmosphere prevails among the students.

A total of 28,901 voters are eligible to cast their votes, of which 39.1 percent are female and 60.9 percent are male. In the elections, 305 candidates are contesting for 23 RUCSU posts, 58 candidates for 5 Senate seats, and 555 candidates for 255 posts across 17 Hall Unions.

Voting is taking place at 17 centers located in 9 academic buildings. A total of 212 teachers are overseeing the elections, including 17 presiding officers, while the rest are serving as assistant presiding officers. Additionally, 91 polling officers are on duty.

For security, 2,000 police personnel, 6 BGB platoons, and 12 RAB platoons have been deployed across the campus. CCTV cameras are installed at all polling centers, and transparent ballot boxes are being used.
