7 held from banned BCL procession in Ctg

Police have arrested seven leaders and activists from a procession organized by banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and its affiliated groups at Bandar Police Station area of Chattogram city.

The arrests were made during a raid at Bandar area on Monday night.

The detainees are Md. Shahed Bashar, 45, Md. Arif Hasan alias Roman, 26, Md. Emon, 21, Abu Hanif Sohel, 38, Mehraj, 30, Md. Shahed Hossain, 31, and Md. Delwar Hossain Titu, 37.


According to police sources, on Monday around 8:30 AM, activists of banned organization suddenly brought out a procession at Barik Building intersection under Bandar Police Station.

The procession, led by Bandar Thana Chhatra League Organizing Secretary Abu Bakkar Rifat, stopped in front of Abul Hashem Sawdagar Mosque at Gosaildanga area while chanting anti-government slogans.

Bandar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Aftab Uddin said that seven people were arrested from the procession of banned group.

During the raid, police seized four cricket stumps, a small flag, 15 bamboo sticks and 20 pieces of stone from the scene.

A case has been filed against the arrested individuals under the Anti-Terrorism Act, the OC confirmed.
