36 nominations including 2 mayoral candidates filed in Bagerhat municipality election

Masum Hawladar, Bagerhat: In the Bagerhat municipality election, 36 candidates including two mayoral candidates nominated by Awami League and BNP have filed nominations. Candidates submitted their nomination papers till 5 pm on Sunday. Among them, there are 6 candidates for the post of reserved women councilor and 28 candidates for the post of general councilor. However, there is a single candidate for the post of councilor in wards 5, 6 and 7 among the general members.

Awami League-nominated mayoral candidate Khan Habibur Rahman, the incumbent mayor and joint secretary of the district Awami League, submitted his nomination papers to Bagerhat District Election Officer and Returning Officer Faraji Benazir Ahmed on Sunday afternoon. At this time, Bagerhat district Awami League vice-president Adv. Azad Firoz Tipu, General Secretary Adv. Bhuiyan Hemayet Uddin, Organizing Secretary Naqib Najibul Haque Naju, Treasurer Abdul Baki Talukder were present. Later in the afternoon, BNP nominated mayoral candidate, former district BNP leader Saeed Niaz Hossain Shaibal submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer. District BNP convener ATM Akram Hossain Talim, member secretary Mozaffar Rahman Alam, BNP leader Kamrul Islam Gora and Ahiduzzaman Paltu were present on the occasion. Bagerhat District Election Officer and Returning Officer Faraji Benazir Ahmed said that on the last day of submission of nomination papers, two candidates for the post of mayor, six candidates for the post of women councilor in 3 reserved wards and 28 candidates for the post of councilor in 9 general wards. There are single candidates for 3 general councilor posts. Nomination papers will be checked and selected on January 19. January 26 is the last day for withdrawal of candidature. There are 38,200 voters in 9 wards of BagerhatMunicipality. Of these, 18,421 are male voters and 19,779 are female voters.
