Masum Hawladar, Bagerhat: In the Bagerhat municipality election, 36 candidates including two mayoral candidates nominated by Awami League and BNP have filed nominations. Candidates submitted their nomination papers till 5 pm on Sunday. Among them, there are 6 candidates for the post of reserved women councilor and 28 candidates for the post of general councilor. However, there is a single candidate for the post of councilor in wards 5, 6 and 7 among the general members.

Awami League-nominated mayoral candidate Khan Habibur Rahman, the incumbent mayor and joint secretary of the district Awami League, submitted his nomination papers to Bagerhat District Election Officer and Returning Officer Faraji Benazir Ahmed on Sunday afternoon. At this time, Bagerhat district Awami League vice-president Adv. Azad Firoz Tipu, General Secretary Adv. Bhuiyan Hemayet Uddin, Organizing Secretary Naqib Najibul Haque Naju, Treasurer Abdul Baki Talukder were present. Later in the afternoon, BNP nominated mayoral candidate, former district BNP leader Saeed Niaz Hossain Shaibal submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer.
