Awareness is needed to prevent water pollution
6, September, 2021, 11:30:48:PM

Water is deeply involved in every aspect of our daily lives. Water is an essential element for the survival of almost all living things on earth. Water covers 70.9% of the earths surface, that is, 3% of the surface water. This amount of water is found in 96.5% of the oceans, 1.7% of the ground, 1.7% of icebergs and snow, and 0.001% of clouds. Despite having so much water, there is only 3 percent water which is used which is called freshwater. The remaining 97% is water which is unusable i.e. saltwater. At present, the total population of the world is 770 crores. The amount of potable water for so many people is very small. But every day for one reason or another a lot of water is wasted. According to experts, `the world`s population has grown over the past few decades. As a result, the supply of potable water has increased.`

Another name for water is life. It is not just a conventional saying but an essential statement of truth. It is very sad but true that the world wastes a lot of tons of water every day, which is never desirable. Water pollution has been identified as a global problem. According to analysts, `Water pollution is currently causing various problems in the area. Various diseases are being caused, which sometimes becomes fatal.` According to one statistic, `Only 1400 people died in the world due to water pollution, 80 people died in every day, in Bangladesh, 80 people died due to water pollution.` According to UNICEF and World Health Organization, `One of the three people worldwide cannot drink water.` Each country is responsible for water pollution, but the most responsible countries are the highest responsible countries.

China has occupied the top share of progress in the world. The more industrialized a country is, the faster it can ascend to the throne of prosperity. Water is what is most needed to improve the industry in a country. And most of the water is wasted and polluted through the industrial sector. Textile dyeing is the second-largest polluter of water in the world and the fashion industry produces 20 percent of the world`s wastewater. If we look at the populous region of China, we see that 90 percent of the water there is polluted. This is unfortunate for a populous country. A review of not only developed countries like China but also every underdeveloped and developing country shows that the amount of potable water is decreasing day by day. According to analysts, "If water pollution and waste continue to increase, the world`s freshwater sources will one day ebb. In a word, it will be difficult to find potable water."

World Water Day is celebrated on March 22 every year to prevent water pollution and water wastage. This day started in 1992. Originally a day in the Brazilian capital, Rio de Janeiro, to protect freshwater, a day was recommended as "Fresh Water Day" at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. Researchers studying the effects of climate change have found that by 2050, 60 percent of the world`s population will not have access to adequate water. This deficit will have a devastating effect on Europe and developing countries. Water pollution will not only affect human life but also the entire biodiversity. Every person living in every corner of the globe needs to be aware to prevent water pollution. Otherwise, human beings, as well as the entire biodiversity, will be threatened.
