Bangladesh`s telecommunications sector has experienced significant expansion and development in recent years, with over 160 million mobile phone users as of 2021. The industry is dominated by large, well-established companies, and the government provides subsidies and tax incentives to support its growth. The telecommunication strategy followed in Bangladesh has been focused on increasing access to telecommunication services and promoting digitalization in the country. Some key elements of this strategy include: 1) Infrastructure Development; 2) Promoting Digitalization; 3) Encouraging Competition; 4) Regulating the Industry; 5) Providing Access to Rural Areas. However, lack of infrastructure and competition and regulatory challenges make it difficult for companies to operate profitably in rural areas. The industry`s potential for growth is driven by increasing demand and the growth of the mobile phone market, but it is facing challenges such as economic instability, intense competition, and government regulation. To continue to grow, the industry must invest in new technologies and address these limitations. Overall, the telecommunications sector is contributing significantly to Bangladesh`s economic prosperity, but likely roadblocks to market growth and the privatization of government services could limit its future growth.
