Bulbul eyes to tap legends to transform Bangladesh cricket

In a fresh chapter for Bangladesh cricket, newly appointed Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Aminul Islam Bulbul is ready to shake things up, and he’s calling on the game’s biggest names to lead the charge.

Speaking at the BSJA building on Saturday, the former national team captain and debut Test centurion laid out an ambitious plan to harness the expertise of Bangladesh’s cricketing legends – former captains who know the game inside out.

Bulbul, stepping into the role after Faruk Ahmed’s eight-month stint, isn’t wasting time.

He’s surrounded by a powerhouse of ex-skippers already embedded in the BCB: Akram Khan, a board director and one of Bangladesh’s finest captains; Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, the first ODI captain; Minhajul Abedin Nannu, a batting maestro; and Habibul Bashar Suman, another iconic leader. These aren’t just names—they’re the backbone of Bangladesh’s cricketing legacy.

So, what’s Bulbul’s game plan? “The former captains are all great legends,” he told journalists.

“They’ve got unmatched experience—on the field, with the wicket, in the dressing room. Each one’s an expert in their own right. We need to use them wisely.”

Bulbul’s vision is clear: leverage their deep understanding of the game’s nuances to elevate Bangladesh cricket to new heights.

Highlighting their strengths, he added, “Nannu bhai is one of the best batters in our history. Akram, one of our greatest captains. Lipu bhai, Habibul Bashar—they’re legends who know the character of the game, the pitches, and the team dynamics.”

But Bulbul isn’t naive. He acknowledges that being a star player doesn’t automatically make you a top administrator or coach. “We’ll put the right systems in place to make it work,” he promised.

With this star-studded lineup of cricketing minds, Bulbul’s leadership signals a new era for the BCB—one that blends legacy with strategy.

Can these legends turn their on-field brilliance into off-field success? If Bulbul’s passion is anything to go by, Bangladesh cricket is in for an exciting ride.
