From tee to ties: Pakistan`s young golfers bring friendship to Dhaka fairways

Sports Correpondent: Cricket and football often grab the headlines, but this week golf is quietly making history in Dhaka.

High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, on Friday welcomed the Pakistan Junior Golf Team at the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka with warmth and encouragement.

The young golfers are in Bangladesh to participate in the 3rd Bangladesh Junior Golf Championship 2026. The prestigious tournament is being held at the Army Golf Club, Dhaka, from 25 to 27 September 2026.

This year the championship has added extra excitement as players from Pakistan are competing in two categories – Under-15 and Under-19. The Pakistan team consists of some of the most promising junior golfers who have already shown their talent at home and are now ready to test their skills on an international course.

Welcoming the team, High Commissioner Imran Haider said sports is one of the best ways to bring people closer. He congratulated the young players for being selected to represent Pakistan and wished them good luck. He said that whether they win trophies or not, they have already won hearts by coming to Bangladesh and participating in a spirit of friendship.

Officials at the High Commission said the visit is more than just a sports event. It is part of growing people-to-people contact between Bangladesh and Pakistan. After education and culture, sports is now becoming a new bridge.

The Army Golf Club, one of the greenest and most beautiful golf courses in Dhaka, is ready for the three-day battle. Young golfers from Bangladesh and Pakistan will share the same fairways, learn from each other and compete with true sportsmanship. Organisers said such junior tournaments are important to build future champions and to promote golf among the youth, who often think golf is only for elders.

For the Pakistani juniors, it is also their first experience of Bangladesh’s hospitality. They visited the High Commission, enjoyed Bangladeshi hospitality and are excited to play in Dhaka.

The tournament will tee off with high hopes. For the spectators, it will be a chance to see the future stars of South Asian golf in action. For Bangladesh and Pakistan, it will be another small but meaningful shot towards stronger friendship – played not with a bat or ball, but with a golf club.

As one official put it, “The scorecard will show who won, but the real victory will be friendship.”
