The National Consensus Commission vice-chairman Professor Ali Riaz has said thatthe commission will submit multiple implementation proposals to the governmentif political parties fail to reach a consensus on how to implement the July Charter.

Speaking at the fourth day of the dialogue between the commission and political parties held at the Foreign Service Academy auditorium on Sunday, he said, “Six proposals have been placed regarding the implementation process. If the parties can agree on one, we will gladly submit it to the interim government. But if consensus is not achieved, the commission itself will finalize and present the options.”

Ali Riaz said that the issues raised in the September 16 discussion had been reviewed with input from experts. “If consensus is built among the parties, implementation will be faster. The Chief Adviser has urged the commission to expedite the process,” he added.

He further said, “We must complete the process by October 15. Although political parties are busy with election preparations, the commission will work to ensure that the process continues without disruption.”

Calling on the political parties to rise above partisan considerations, Riaz said, “The responsibility for implementing the Charter lies not only with the commission but also with all political parties. The rights of citizens must come before party interests. Together, we must move toward structural reforms for a more accountable state.”

Commission members Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, and Dr. Ayyub Mia attended the meeting, which was conducted by the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant (National Consensus Commission) Monir Haydar.
