No bar for BCB polls, 15 clubs to participate

The Chamber Court of the Appellate Division on Sunday stayed the High Court order on Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections, allowing the councillors of 15 clubs to participate in the polls.

Farah Mahbub, Judge of the Appellate Division, issued this order after holding a hearing.

Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol and Barrister Kayser Kamal were present in the court for the petitioner, while lawyer Mahin Khan for BCB.

The 15 clubs which can take part in the elections are Gulshan Cricket Club, Old DOHS Club, Exum Cricketers, Dhaka Cricket Academy, Mohammad Cricket Club, Nawabganj Cricket Coaching Academy, Purba Chawl Sporting Club, Old Dhaka Cricketers, Vikings Cricket Academy, Banani Cricket Club, Nakhalpara Cricketers, Mohakhali Cricket Academy, Dhanmondi Cricket Club, Pacific Cricket Club, Safaer Sporting Club, and Alpha Sporting Club.

Meanwhile former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal had been active in the election as a councillor of Old DOHS Club and as vice-president of Gulshan Cricket Club. But later he withdrew his nominations.

An HC bench comprising Justice Khizir Ahmed Chowdhury and Justice Syed Hasan Zubayer on September 30 barred 15 clubs from participating in the upcoming BCB elections scheduled for October 6.
