MM Rahmatullah: The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Bangladesh organized World Arabic Language Day at its premises in Dhaka on Wednesday. The event was attended by esteemed guests, including Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam, Pro Vice Chancellor of Islamic Arabic University, Professor Dr. Waliullah, Dean of Islamic Arabic University, Professor Dr. Md. Yusuf, Professor Dr. Ruhul Amin, professors of various universities, scholars, Head of the Arabic Institute of Bangladesh, senior officials of the Saudi Embassy, and media personnel. Many Bangladeshi calligraphers of different ages were present and displayed their excellent work.

Political Affairs Director of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Bangladesh Excellency Yasir Sheshah moderated the whole event. 

In his address, H.E. Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the People`s Republic of Bangladesh, Dr. Abdullah Zafer H. bin Abiyah, emphasized the significance of the Arabic language, stating that it is a sacred and historical language, the language of the noble Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH). He highlighted that Arabic connects over 1.5 billion Muslims globally and holds significant cultural, historical, and economic values, as well as rich Arab heritage.
The Ambassador also noted that Arabic is a major UN language, a gateway to science and ideal philosophy, and a key to the richest Arab world. He stressed that preserving and promoting the Arabic language is essential to safeguarding heritage while empowering future generations to engage confidently with the modern world.
Other notable speakers at the event included Professor Dr. Waliullah, Dean of Islamic Arabic University, and Professor Dr. Ruhul Amin, Professor of the Arabic Department of Dhaka University.
World Arabic Language Day is an international occasion recognized by the United Nations to honor one of the most influential and widely used languages in the world. The day commemorates the adoption of Arabic as an official language of the United Nations in 1973 and is celebrated annually on December 18.
The celebration of World Arabic Language Day serves as a reminder of the language`s role in strengthening cultural identity and social cohesion, uniting diverse societies across different regions, dialects, and traditions, providing a shared cultural and intellectual space.
