Chhatra Shibir Condemns Teen’s Murder after Rape Case, Decries Law‑and‑Order Collapse

Special Correspondent: Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir’s central president Nurul Islam and secretary‑general Sibgatullah Sibga today expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law‑and‑order situation after two recent murders linked to sexual‑violence cases.

According to media reports, a 15‑year‑old girl from Narsingdi, who had been gang‑raped by five‑six youths led by local youth Nura about 15 days ago, was abducted from her father’s side on 25 Feb while traveling to a relative’s house. The abductors allegedly raped her again and then killed her. The victim’s family, which has been demanding justice, reported that a local UP member and BNP leader Deowan, along with Mahishura BNP vice‑chairman Ahmmed Ali Deowan, threatened them with large sums of money and tried to force them to leave the area, allegedly shielding the perpetrators.

In a separate incident in Rampura, Dhaka, a six‑year‑old child was subjected to brutal abuse and then murdered. When the family attempted to file a case, police initially refused to register the complaint, suggesting they “accept it as an accident.” After public protests and a siege of the police station, a case was finally recorded, but the family now faces political pressure to withdraw it.

Shibir leaders said these are not isolated cases. Since the recent national election, attacks on opposition activists, rapes, vandalism of homes and businesses, market take‑overs, extortion and “mob terrorism” have surged. They also accused a political party of harboring criminals and of releasing and rehabilitating individuals linked to past mass‑killings and drug trafficking, undermining the July uprising’s aspirations.

“The government, after taking office, promised peace, order and justice, but it has failed to rein in its own party members,” the statement read. “If a government cannot control its own ranks, how can it protect women and ordinary citizens?”

Shibir called on authorities to launch swift, impartial investigations into the Narsingdi and Rampura murders and all related crimes, to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators, and to ensure justice regardless of political affiliation.
