International: The “Tiantan Award” in China has emerged as a significant platform for exchange and dialogue among filmmakers worldwide, according to industry figures attending the 16th Beijing International Film Festival.

Renowned French actress Juliette Binoche, who serves as the jury president for this year’s Tiantan Award, attended the opening ceremony and remarked, “To me, Tiantan has always symbolized friendship—the kind of legend that only cinema can create.” The name “Tiantan” is derived from the Temple of Heaven, one of Beijing’s most iconic historical landmarks.

This year, a total of 1,826 films from 139 countries and regions were submitted for competition, of which 16 have been shortlisted for the Tiantan Award.

Sun Junmin, Director of the Publicity Department of the Beijing Municipal Committee, noted that over the past 16 years, the festival has not only showcased Chinese cinema to the world but has also become an important platform for international film exchange and mutual learning.

He further emphasized that Beijing will continue to advance the film industry by improving the filmmaking environment, strengthening creative processes, and expanding the application of new technologies.

During the festival, a wide range of activities—including international film screenings, forums, and both online and offline events—are scheduled to take place. Since its inception in 2011, the festival has grown increasingly influential globally, driven by the rapid expansion of China’s film market.
