International: On April 22 (Wednesday), the inaugural meeting of the China–Cambodia Foreign and Defence Ministers’ “2+2” strategic dialogue mechanism was held in Phnom Penh. Foreign ministers and defence ministers from both countries participated in the meeting.

During the discussions, the two sides held in-depth exchanges on bilateral relations, political security, defence and security cooperation, as well as international and regional issues, reaching broad consensus on multiple areas.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that in the face of a complex and challenging global environment, China and Cambodia have maintained strategic awareness, consistently supported each other, strengthened mutual trust, and continued to enhance their bilateral strategic resilience.

He noted that President Xi Jinping visited Cambodia last April and held in-depth strategic discussions with Cambodian leaders, marking the beginning of a new chapter in building a China–Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era. It was during this visit that both sides agreed to establish the “2+2” strategic dialogue mechanism between foreign and defence ministers, aimed at further strengthening mutual strategic trust and enhancing coordination. The convening of the first meeting demonstrates the high importance both countries place on their ironclad friendship and expanding strategic cooperation.

The Chinese Foreign Minister further reiterated China’s continued support for Cambodia’s development and efforts to improve the livelihood of its people. He also pledged ongoing humanitarian assistance for the resettlement of residents in Cambodia’s border regions and support for poverty alleviation pilot projects.

Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun said that the current international and regional security situation is complex and rapidly evolving. China stands ready to work with Cambodia to enhance mutual military trust and make greater contributions to building a China–Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era.
