  Life sketch of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman

(BSS)- Md. Asaduzzaman was born on January 31 in 1971 in a respectable Muslim family at Baraipara village under Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah District. He is the son of Sheikh Md. Israil Hossain and Begum Rokeya.

Md. Asaduzzaman began his academic journey in his home district of Jhenaidah. He completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination in 1987 and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination in 1989 under the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Jashore. He later pursued higher education in the University of Dhaka, where he obtained his LL.B.(Honours)and LL.M. degrees with distinction from the Department of Law.

In 1995, he was enrolled as an advocate of the Bangladesh Bar Council. In 1996, he was enlisted as an advocate of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, and in 1997, he became a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association. In 2005, he was enrolled as an advocate of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, and in 2023, he was enrolled as a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court.

At the early stage of his career, he worked with Mr. Nizamul Haque Nasim, who was then an advocate and later became a Justice. In 1998, he joined as a junior to the eminent lawyer Barrister Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed. Subsequently, he became a partner at the law firm `Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed & Associates’ founded by Barrister Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed. Through his competence and dedication, he established himself in the legal profession and developed expertise in writ, tax, company and civil law.

In addition to his legal career, he has played an active role in the politics of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He was the Human Rights Affairs Secretary of National Executive Committee of BNP. He also served as a Human Rights Adviser to the then Acting Chairman of BNP, Tarique Rahman.

As a committed human rights activist, Md. Asaduzzaman has made notable contributions both at home and abroad against fascist regime. He was also elected as the General Secretary of the Executive Committee of renowned human rights organization, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).

Following the students-people’s mass uprising in July-August in 2024, he was appointed as the 17th Attorney General for Bangladesh on August 8 in 2024. He served in this position with great success for approximately one year and five months, playing an active role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice.

He was elected as a Member of Parliament from Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa), as a candidate of BNP in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, securing a landslide victory with 173,381 votes, while his nearest rival bagged only 57,055 votes.

He took oath as a Member of Parliament on February 17, 2026. On the same day, he took oath as a Cabinet Minister in the government formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and assumed the Office of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

In his personal life, Md Asaduzzaman is married and father of two daughters. His spouse, Shirin Sultana is a teacher. His elder daughter, Anjoli Zaman (Kotha), is studying law in a university in UK and his younger daughter, Adhora Zaman, is studying in the country.
