  DU VC dines with Japanese Ambassador, discusses academic ties

DU Correspondent: Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam attended a discussion and dinner hosted at the residence of the Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka on Sunday night, April 26, 2026.

The event was held at the invitation of Mr. Saida Shinichi, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh.

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Abdus Salam, Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Professor Dr. Abdullah-Al-Mamun of the Department of Japanese Studies, and Mr. Aoyagi Yu, Head of Public Relations and Culture at the Embassy of Japan in Dhaka, were also present.

During the discussion, they exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, particularly on strengthening ongoing joint education and research programs in humanities and science at Dhaka University with Japanese cooperation. They also emphasized increasing mutual collaboration between Dhaka University and universities in Japan.

The meeting further discussed faculty, student and researcher exchange programs between Dhaka University and Japanese universities, as well as expanding opportunities for DU students to pursue higher education in Japan.
