Fifth CMG Media Forum Held Under the Theme “Unwavering Confidence and Reconstruction”

International: On June 10, the Fifth CMG Media Forum was held in Chongqing, jointly organised by China Media Group (CMG) and the Chongqing Municipal People`s Government. This year`s theme was “Unwavering Confidence and Reconstruction: The Mission of Media in the Intelligent Era.” Nearly 300 representatives from government agencies, international organisations, media outlets, think tanks and multinational companies from around the world participated in the event.

In his remarks, Yuan Jiajun, Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, said that CPC General Secretary Xi Jinping attaches great importance to media innovation and the development of an all-media public opinion framework.

He noted that in a congratulatory letter sent to the first CMG Media Forum, Xi Jinping provided important guidance for the development of the media industry. Chongqing, he said, has been earnestly implementing the spirit of the important instructions and guidance delivered by Xi Jinping during his inspection tour of the municipality.

He added that Chongqing is focusing on building a modern industrial system, actively exploring a new path for modern governance in megacities, steadily advancing integrated urban-rural development and comprehensive rural revitalisation, improving the quality of building a culturally strong city in the new era, and deepening green and low-carbon transformation-driven development, while striving to write a new chapter of Chinese modernisation in Chongqing.

Yuan Jiajun also said that Chongqing is willing to work with all parties to promote technology-driven media integration, foster an advanced international media ecosystem, and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

In his speech, Shen Haixiong, Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and President of China Media Group, said that General Secretary Xi Jinping has pointed out that artificial intelligence should become an international public good that benefits all humanity.

He further noted that this year marks the beginning of China`s Fifteenth Five-Year Plan and represents a critical juncture when global artificial intelligence is rapidly transitioning from technological exploration to industrial application.

“CMG is committed to transforming the tremendous potential of technology into a force for public communication and cultural inspiration. By illuminating the power of technology, we are opening up new dimensions for the integration of culture and technology and reshaping China`s ability to tell its boundless stories,” Shen said.

He added, “CMG calls on media colleagues around the world to embrace an open mindset that connects land and sea, jointly fulfil the responsibilities of media in the intelligent era, and work together to build an open, inclusive and sharing-oriented new smart broadcasting framework, so as to contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.”

Chiliči Mawala, Chancellor of the United Nations University and United Nations Under-Secretary-General, said that artificial intelligence is fundamentally transforming the way information is produced and disseminated. It is removing language barriers and delivering information to global audiences at unprecedented speed.

He added that the United Nations has recently launched the Global Digital Compact. In the context of media responsibility, artificial intelligence has already profoundly transformed the journalism industry. Ultimately, he said, whether this technology serves the public good or causes harm will largely depend on the media itself.

He stressed that the United Nations remains committed to working with all stakeholders to build a digital future that is safe, inclusive and beneficial to all humanity.

Leaders of international organisations and major global media outlets—including the International Olympic Committee, the World Intellectual Property Organization, Russia`s All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, and the President and CEO of The Associated Press—sent congratulatory video messages to the forum.

They expressed hope that the forum would further deepen exchanges and mutual learning among global media organisations, jointly shape value-oriented guidance for media in the intelligent era, uphold responsible boundaries in the application of technology, and contribute to building a healthy, open and sustainable global media ecosystem.

During the keynote speech session, heads of international media organisations, experts, scholars and young entrepreneurs exchanged views on the responsibilities of media in the intelligent era, the application of technology, and future development directions.

As one of the forum`s important outcomes, representatives from various countries and regions jointly released the “Initiative of the Fifth CMG Media Forum.” In addition, several major achievements were unveiled during the forum, including the latest results of Yangshiting Large Model 3.0, CMG`s flagship digital and intelligent project.
